About Sudety Wałbrzyskie Landscape Park

Sudety Wałbrzyskie Landscape Park (Park Krajobrazowy Sudetów Wałbrzyskich) is a distinctive protected area located in the Wałbrzych Hills of the Central Sudetes in Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Poland. Established in 1998, the park covers an area of approximately 64 square kilometers and preserves a unique mix of geological formations, forest ecosystems, and cultural landmarks. The terrain of the park is characterized by gently rolling hills, rocky outcrops, and deep river valleys, shaped by its volcanic and sedimentary geological history. Mixed forests dominate the landscape, comprising spruce, fir, beech, and oak, providing habitat for diverse wildlife including deer, wild boar, and numerous bird species.

The park is historically significant, with old settlements, remnants of medieval fortifications, and mining heritage sites reflecting the region’s industrial past. One of the prominent landmarks is the Rybnica granite massif, featuring striking granite boulders popular among climbers and hikers alike. The park offers a network of well-maintained trails varying from gentle nature walks to more challenging hikes that lead to panoramic viewpoints overlooking the Sudetes.

Outdoor recreation is a highlight, with opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, bird watching, and photography. The park’s proximity to the city of Wałbrzych makes it accessible for day trips or longer explorations. Visitors appreciate the quiet natural atmosphere, ancient forests, and the blend of geological wonder and cultural history that makes Sudety Wałbrzyskie Landscape Park a compelling destination for nature lovers and history enthusiasts.
